Despite the fact that #Pokémon GO has only been released in Europe, it became quite a global phenomenon. Last week, Nintendo released the application in Australia, New Zealand and the United States. It became one of the most downloaded applications in the world, with millions of installations in just a few days. It surpassed even applications like WhatsApp and Instagram and it is currently competing with Twitter.

The Verge wrote that since Wednesday, the game has been available in Germany. This means that it will soon be launched in many other European states, so do not wonder if your friends are nosed into their telephones more than usual. It might have something to do with tracking and catching some Pokémon.

So what is Pokémon GO?

Pokémon GO requires players to walk the streets in search of real Pokémon using an augmented reality mode, as players see the game’s Pokémon in real life through their smartphone camera. Worldwide, many buildings and public places were marked as fields where Pokémon can be found, can be trained and fight those of other users. The application – which is available on both Android Operating System and the iOS – works on the same principle as the games that were initially launched years ago. But the only difference is that Pokémon GO assigns you a role in the real world and guides you around.

Just how addictive is the application?

I had managed to get a hold of the application before it was released in my state and I hadn’t expected to find other people walking around, constantly monitoring their smartphones. In just a few days a difference in my daily activities was very visible, as I started to use my hourly working breaks for tracking and catching some Pokémon. And if this didn’t change my boring mornings and evenings, while tracking the colored monsters on my way to work, I actually stumbled upon a man who looked slightly older than me and who was incidentally chasing the Pokémon inhabiting the area.

Soon enough it will be released everywhere

In about two weeks after it had been released, Pokémon GO finally reached Europe and soon enough it is about to spread worldwide. Not many people saw this coming, but the way it took all of us by surprise is outstanding and it might actually be the first application ever to gain such popularity overnight.
