Mementoes and Souvenirs are manmade objects created to preserve somthing for a long time. They are made for gifting purpose and for someone's great work in a particular subject or area. Mementoes are usually given out of respect as a good gesture. Souvenirs can be any artefacts which have a value in respect to the person to whom it is presented. The meaning of Mementos is memorable to whom it is gifted. In ancient times kings used to give mementoes to other kings and vice versa for remembering each other's good ties. Generations have followed in their friendship and continue the tradition. Nowadays we see an extended version of it as these practices are followed in business and personal relations. If we look at history, mementoes and souvenirs were valuable archives and they can be preserved for learning and for understanding culture and traditions during any particular period. Manuscripts are nothing but handwritten work and are preserved in the same manner over the years. Actually, the word "manuscript" derived from the Latino word, "manu scriptus" where manu stands for hand and scriptus stands for writing something. Sometimes manuscripts are unpublished handmade work. During ancient times books and periodicals came in manuscript format as there were no machines to make a book. Manuscripts were made on cloth and it used to open from top to bottom for reading. There used to be a wooden rod attached to both sides of the cloth. Liquid ink was in wide use and for writing, a feather was used. The feather's bottom part was usde by dipping into an ink pot and for drawing pictures and art the same procedure was followed. There were several manuscripts which were made for hanging purposes. In ancient times manuscripts were in use to provide information to the common public or to workers in palaces and forts. The same applied to information passed during war and crisis. Horses and pigeons were in widely used to transport manuscripts from one place to another.
Storing or preserving manuscripts in their original and digital forms has many benefits. It can be useful for many generations to come as they will be able to understand prevailing culture during a particular time, languages, social development, history and a business economy as a whole. The challenge is to preserve its original form through digitalisation. As years go by manuscripts become obsolete. To preserve our species let's preserve our ancient manuscripts.
