Google’s latest Android platform, Android 8.0 Oreo launched on August 21. Despite the latest OS being available for two months, few OEMs have rolled out the OS to compatible devices. As Android users wait patiently for the latest OS to hit their handsets, it appears HTC U11 owners will benefit from the software update soon.

If the leak from tipster LlabTooFeR is to be believed, then the handset could benefit from the update in November. This means that the U11 would edge out other rival Android handsets such as Samsung’s Galaxy S8 series in the race.

Android 8.0 Oreo for HTC flagship in development

While previous leaks have pointed to the U11 getting a taste of Android Oreo by year end, LlabTooFeR’s tweet suggests that the update for the handset is in final stages of development. This suggests that the OS could be pushed out to the flagship in November. However, the exact date for the rollout is shrouded in mystery. As the tipster revealed in his tweet, a possibility exists that HTC may push back Android 8.0 Oreo’s release for the U11 to early December.

Earlier in August, HTC had revealed that it would push out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the U11 in Q4 2017.

Apart from the flagship, the HTC 10 and U Ultra are also slated to get updated to the latest Google OS. At the time, the Taiwan-based OEM also confirmed in a tweet that new products were in the pipeline.

New smartphones from HTC?

True to its promise, the OEM is poised to launch two new Android-powered handsets in Early November.

One of the devices is a mid-range offering, whereas the other is allegedly a premium version of the HTC U11 flagship. Speculations are rife that come November 2, HTC will unveil the U11 Life and the U11 Plus. The former is a mid-range handset with modest features, whereas the latter is believed to be a premium version of the U11.

The U11 Plus is anticipated to sport a 6-inch Quad HD display, which will likely have minimal bezels on the top and bottom. Under the hood, the smartphone is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset and may come with 6 GB of RAM. The U11 Plus is also rumored to be one of the first smartphones to launch with Android Oreo out of the box.

With November 2 inching closer, it remains to be seen what surprises the company has in store for consumers. Whether the Android 8.0 update will arrive for U11 sometime in November or early December remains to be seen. The update will bring a slew of exciting features users' way such as power saving, Wi-Fi aware, and more.
