Apple is the Cupertino-based tech firm that remains one of the top players in the smartphone industry. Some of the recent iPhone editions have only arrived with minor upgrades, but that changed with the reveal of Apple’s 10th-year-anniversary device, the iPhone X.

Apple is geared up to roll out the iPhone X next month with facial recognition technology. According to Mac Rumors, KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, claimed that the mobile device industry is following the lead of Apple iPhone X from fingerprint scanner feature to 3D sensor technology.

The KGI Securities analyst stated that since Apple unveiled its TrueDepth camera as well its facial recognition technology, inquiries from other handset manufacturers into 3D sensor technology have increased at least three times. Smartphone manufacturers are trying to shift towards the camera-based 3D sensor feature as the primary user authentication mode.

3D sensor-equipped smartphones

Kuo envisioned that two to three years from now, smartphone manufacturers will ship 3D sensor-equipped handsets greater than mobile devices with fingerprint feature. Kuo previously anticipated that it would take Apple’s competitors up to two and half years to provide the user experience the tech company’s iPhone X TrueDepth camera offers.

The interest by other handset makers in 3D sensing feature is not surprising. Samsung has already applied facial recognition feature in its smartphones. Galaxy S8 and Note 8 users can unlock the devices with facial recognition technology. Nonetheless, the South Korean tech firm has struggled with the technology for the reason that the smartphones can easily be hacked.

Meanwhile, a new video of the iPhone X emerged on Reddit (via BGR), in which the smartphone appears to showcase moving wallpaper, called the Dynamic Wallpapers. Apple did not announce this feature though there are a number of wallpapers which react to 3D touch technology. However, if the tech company features this technology in the iPhone X, then the battery life of the device might drain fast, as wallpapers possess some animation.

Release date and price

Apple will offer the mobile device in different configurations: 64GB of storage and 256GB of storage. The handset will come at a starting price of $999.
