After months of speculations, rumors, and predictions, Apple has finally unveiled their 10th-anniversary smartphone – the iPhone X, during an Apple event held at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California on Tuesday. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were also revealed during the event, although people were probably more interested in the iPhone X due to its beautiful and almost no bezel design.

With that said, here are the things you should know about the 10th-anniversary smartphone before it’s released later this year.

The iPhone X has no fingerprint scanner

The absence of the home button is finally confirmed together with the fingerprint scanner. Instead, Apple has decided to implement the so called FaceID to unlock the device.

To unlock the device, users only need to look at the phone and swipe the screen. The iPhone X has several sensors to capture the user’s face, including an infrared camera, dot projector and flood illuminator among other things, which will help the device recognize the user from all angles. This also means that the device cannot be unlocked by a two-dimensional photo of the user.

The iPhone X will recognize the users even if they are wearing glasses, hats or any other head accessories.

Also, the sensors still work at night time or in the dark.

The display is just gorgeous

One of the most anticipated aspects of the latest iPhone X is the screen. LG and Samsung have spearheaded the no-bezel design with the release of the G6 and the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, and Apple certainly took inspiration from these devices.

The iPhone X will be the first iPhone to sport a 5.8-inch edge-to-edge OLED display, which means colors will be more vibrant and brighter than any other Apple device. It has a 2046x1125 resolution with 455 pixel-per-inch display.

Under the hood

The latest smartphone by Apple will boast the most recent A11 chip, which is said to be 25 percent faster than the previous processor and will be installed with the newest Apple firmware, the iOS 11.

Because of the glass back design, the iPhone X will now have wireless charging, a feature that has been demanded by Apple fans for quite some time now.

The device will come with an accessory called the AirPower for its wireless charging. It’s a wide mat capable of charging the smartphone with other Apple devices such as the AirPods and Apple Watch, all at the same time.

How much will it cost?

The base model of the iPhone X will cost $999 with 64GB of onboard storage. Meanwhile, the 256GB version will set you back $1,149.

The pre-orders will start on Oct. 27, and the device will hit store shelves on Nov. 3.
