Google is gearing up to launch the Pixel 2 and Pixel Xl 2 smartphones on October 5. The Pixel series released in 2016 got rave reviews among tech enthusiasts, especially in the camera front. The upcoming Pixel series will compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S8, iPhone 8 and other handsets.

While HTC will manufacture the Google Pixel 2 (Walleye), the Pixel XL 2 (Taimen) model will hit the retail shelves via LG. The started variant of the upcoming Pixel phone will ship with a 4.97-inch FHD (16:9) display, while the Pixel XL will be equipped with a 5.99-inch OLED (18:9) bezel-less display manufactured by LG.

Similar design

According to ZDNet, the search-engine giant was planning to launch a third model of the Pixel series but, was subsequently postponed due to unknown reasons. The image leaked out by the popular tipster Evan Blass reveals the fact that the design of the handset will be more or less identical to that of the currently available Pixel.

Elimination of headphone port

The highlight of the Google Pixel 2 will be the removal of the traditional headphone port. Moreover, the rear side will have two-tone glass coupled with metal finish. According to FCC leak, the Google Pixel 2 will borrow the side squeeze feature from the HTC U11 under the name Active Edge. Hence, it will be possible to perform various functions including launching Google Assistant just by squeezing the sides.

Addition of Snapdragon 836 processor

Talking about the specifications, the Google Pixel 2 will ship with a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB RAM coupled with 64GB internal storage. The Pixel 2 XL will bear a Snapdragon 836 processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage paired with the fingerprint sensor on the rear side.

According to ZDNet, Google will not change the capacity of the camera sensors on both the models.

However, the company will add additional extra features to the sensor. The rear camera will offer a 12.3MP f/1.8 aperture camera, while the front-facing camera will ship with an 8MP sensor.

Integration of Android Oreo

Regarding the software side, we surely expect the Google Pixel 2 to ship with the newly launched Android 8.0 Oreo.

The Pixel will be the first handset to come with the Oreo platform followed by smartphones from other manufacturers.

To begin with, the upcoming Google Pixel 2 series will be made available in the US via Google Store, Verizon, T-Mobile and Best Buy including Amazon. The 32GB storage variant of Pixel will cost $649, while the 128GB storage model will be priced at $749.
