After all the buzz and rumors making rounds on the web, Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Active now goes official. The South Korean mobile manufacturer claims that this new S8 series of the phone is the "toughest Galaxy smartphone yet”. Another striking aspect of the device is its shatter-proof display, unlike the Galaxy S8 and S8+ that comes with infinity-display and is breakable. This makes it pretty clear that the new S8 Active is obviously designed in the lines of its predecessors – last year’s S7 Active and 2015’s S6 Active which were also extremely rigid in nature.

Apart from the rugged look, the new Samsung smartphone is both dust and water-resistant as well. Keeping aside the display and the look of the handset, what makes the phone out-of-the-box is its massive battery setup, which the company claims to deliver a long lasting battery backup. These features basically make the new S8 Active an apt option for heavy smartphone users.

Galaxy S8 Active specs

The smartphone comes with a 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with the screen ratio of 18.5:9, similar to that of the Galaxy S8 and S8+. But, the displays of both the phones are very different, to be honest completely opposite to each other. S8 Active’s rear panel includes a textured layer which offers a good grip to the user’s hand.

Basically, it’ll rarely slip off the hand. Further, the display comes with a bumper on all sides of the phone which not only makes the handset resistant but strong as well. This is unlike the recently launched flagship phones by Samsung.

Galaxy S8 Active is further powered by a Snapdragon 835 chipset. This is the latest processor by Qualcomm which also powers most of the flagship phones of the year including the – OnePlus 5, HTC U 11, S8 and S8+, and Xiaomi Mi 6.

Further, the upcoming phones like Galaxy Note 8, Nokia 8, LG V30 are also expected to be powered by the same processor. Meanwhile, some reports claim that LG is probably in talks with Qualcomm to make the LG G7 the first phone to be powered by Snapdragon 836 SoC.

Samsung’s new phone comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage which can be further expandable via a hybrid microSD card.

While on the camera set up, the phone comes with a 12-megapixel camera at the back which comes coupled with f/1.7. While on the front, the handset sports an 8-megapixel selfie shooter. The striking feature of the phone is its 4000mAh battery. That being said the battery set up of the S8 Active is much better than the 3500mAh battery that backs the S8 and S8+.
