After Google started launching the #August 2017 Security Patch to its Pixel and Nexus devices, the update is now rolling out to Nokia 5 and #Nokia 6 smartphones. Nokia sent out the update which was well received by owners. However, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, stated on social media that the Android O update will also roll out to its Nokia 3 smartphone.

Checking the update manually

According to Android Police, the Nokia 5 and 6 handsets received the August Android 2017 security patch on the same day as the Pixel/Nexus devices, which could indicate that the Finnish tech giant is taking software updates to their devices very seriously.

However, if Nokia 5 and 6 handset owners haven't received the update notification, owners can check the update manually by heading to Settings, About Phone and then System Update. The August 2017 Security Patch is based only on the Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system.

How to download the security patch

The screenshots taken by several of the smartphone owners showed that the security patch would be about 120MB in size so it shouldn’t take long to download the update. Users can download the August 2017 Security Patch through Wi-Fi, and users are recommended to have their handsets charged to a decent amount of battery life.

It’s unclear if all of the Nokia 5 and 6 users around the globe will be able to acquire the update but, there’s a possibility that HMD Global is launching the August 2017 Security Patch in stages and region by region.
