While Microsoft has yet to pitch in the official specs and features of its Surface Phone, it is believed that the highly anticipated smartphone will be an expandable phone and a foldable tablet. The Redmond, Washington based tech titan is said to be building the mobile device to take on Apple and Samsung in the premium smartphone industry.

However, as reported by the Economic Times, the patent filed by Microsoft for the Surface Phone has been made public. Although the smartphone is dubbed as Wireless Communications Device, the patent revealed a bendable handset with an antenna, SIM card holders, battery as well as a screen connector that creates a dual-screened handset.

Nonetheless, Microsoft’s smartphone has no release date yet, but tech fans and experts are anticipating that the Surface Phone will be up for grabs during the fourth quarter of 2017. The device would certainly have several rivals. Around the same time, Apple’s iPhone 8 will definitely hit the shelves. The device is expected to arrive with a 5.8-inch edge-to-edge OLED screen, an advanced A11 chipset, a glass body and a wireless charging capability.

Meanwhile, another competitor of Surface Phone in the smartphone market is Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8. Samsung’s device would arrive with a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED screen with 4K resolution, a 6GB of RAM, a dual 13MP camera and Qualcomm’s advanced Snapdragon processor.

In spite of that, Learn Bonds reported that Microsoft’s upcoming mobile device would be able to ditch the spotlight on Apple’s iPhones in the smartphone market. The Surface Phone is expected to come with a powerful processor, ability to run Win32 apps and an attractive design.

Microsoft is anticipated to roll out three models of the smartphone, an enthusiast edition, consumer edition and a business edition.

The higher-end variant would boast a 5.7-inch display as well as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor. The other two models are most likely to be available with a Snapdragon 820 or Snapdragon 821 chipsets.

The forthcoming handset will run Windows 10 Redstone operating system. On the camera front, the Surface Phone will be equipped with a 20MP rear snapper with a Carl Zeiss lens, while the front camera will have an 8MP.
