Qualcomm has yet to officially unveil its new Snapdragon 845 system on chip (SoC), but the processor appears to have been accidentally leaked in the semiconductor company's legal battle against Apple Inc. Qualcomm’s new chipset is anticipated to be available in Samsung’s upcoming mobile devices, but the much awaited Galaxy Note 8 phablet is not included.

Qualcomm did not confirm that the company is indeed already working on a new processor. Nonetheless, in a document filed by Qualcomm to support its complaint against the Cupertino based tech titan, the tech company listed the new processor as one of its hardwares.

Chipset in Galaxy S9

However, as reported by Android Authority, the company will likely roll out the Snapdragon 845 chipset in the forthcoming Galaxy S9 Android smartphone, which means Samsung enthusiasts will be the first to experience the processor. But, Tech Post reported that the chipset could also appear in the upcoming LG G7 smartphone, considering the main complaint of LG G6 owners is that the device is underpowered.

It is believed that Qualcomm and the South Korean tech giant are collaborating for the next-gen SoC, which is an indication that Samsung will have an exclusivity period for the new processor, just like what the tech company had for Qualcomm's 835 variant.

The Snapdragon 845 Processor is expected to utilize the 7nm process, which would boost the performance of the chipset by 35 percent over its predecessor.

But, the technology might not be ready for mass production next year. However, according to MS Power User, the Snapdragon 845 might make an appearance in the next-gen of Windows 10 on Advanced RISC Machine (ARM) devices.

The Snapdragon 845 is not the only unannounced chipset of the company. Google's Pixel 2 smartphone will likely be the first handset to pack a Snapdragon 836 chipset, which is believed to be the revision of Snapdragon 835 processor.

The 836 variant will be relatively similar to the 835 model, but will come along with a higher peak GPU as well as CPU clock speeds.

Expected specs of the SoC

The new 845 model is expected to come along with Adreno 630 graphics, four low-power Cortex A53 cores and four Cortex A75 cores. The processor is expected to boast an LPDDR4X memory as well as UFS 2.1 storage support.

Providing Intel would not try to intervene, the new chipset is expected to add more power and increase the efficiency of the laptops as well as the 2-in-1 devices.
