Although the #Galaxy S8 is only a few months old, it appears #Samsung might roll out its sibling. The mobile device could be the cheaper, smaller version of the S8 and is dubbed the Samsung #Galaxy S8 Lite or the Galaxy S8 Mini.

Device with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 840 SoC

Samsung’s upcoming mobile device has been spotted on Geekbench with the model number SM-G9600. The benchmarking website made it known that the smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 840 processor. But, the smartphone’s chipset is not the successor of the Snapdragon 835, for the reason that it carries an underpowered quad-core SoC.

Geekbench claimed that Samsung Galaxy S8 Lite’s processor is clocked at 1.77GHz with 4212 points on multi-core tests, with 1782 points on the single-core test. Since the phone’s SoC is clocked at 1.77 GHz, it might not be as powerful as Galaxy S8’s processor. Lite’s chipset might be Snapdragon 820 processor’s upgraded version.

Smartphone running on Android 4.1.2 Nougat OS

Nonetheless, the RAM of Samsung’s upcoming smartphone is 4GB with 32GB of storage and runs the Android 4.1.2 Nougat operating system. Since the device doesn’t seem to come with the new Android O operating system, which is expected to be available in September, the South Korean tech giant might launch the smartphone next month.

As mini versions are usually the flagship device’s smaller editions, the S8 Mini could come along with a 4.5-inch HD display, but the tech company could always choose for a full HD display. However, the smaller version doesn’t match up to the 1440x2960p display of the flagship smartphone. The device might not arrive with an edge-to-edge display.

As the Galaxy S8 Mini is a downgraded version of the flagship handset, it may arrive without its high-end features but will be available with the same software. The smartphone might be available with the flagship’s TouchWiz user interface. Also, the mobile device is expected to come with the tech company’s all-new virtual assistant Bixby.

Nonetheless, the artificial intelligence-based voice assistant can scan objects and will provide information to the user.

As a Samsung exec had confirmed earlier this month that the company will not roll out the S8 Mini, most likely the tech giant will dub the upcoming mobile device as the Galaxy S8 Lite. In spite of that, the mobile device will compete with the recently released LG Q6.
