Samsung is known to be quite vague about its updates for all its devices, except the ones that are considered premium or high-end. In case of these higher priced phones, the company has a policy of supporting all new updates that arrives within two years of the release of the device. So, users with a Galaxy S8 for instance will know that they will get all of the security as well as OS updates till around April 2019.

However, this is not the case in terms of Samsung’s low or mid range smartphones. For these devices, there is no established rule which the company follows when it comes to update.

The company may offer updates for a long time in some cases but may not do so in case of other devices. However, a recent report indicates that the Android 7.0 Nougat seem to be rolling out to one more mid ranger from the South Korean company.

New OS for the Galaxy J7 (2016)

The Galaxy J7 series of devices from Samsung is considered to be a popular mid-budget device with some above average specs and features. The 2016 version of the Galaxy J7 shipped with the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system and Samsung has remained mum on the possibility of the newer Android OS reaching users of the device. However, even though there has been no official word of the possible update, other sources show certain signs that almost confirms the Nougat update coming to the Galaxy J7 (2016).

The Galaxy J7 (2016) was recently spotted at Wi-Fi Alliance, which in itself is nothing out of the ordinary. However, the handset in this case showed that it was running Android 7.0 Nougat. The handset which has the model number SM-J710F can be clearly seen to be powered by the newer operating system instead of the older Android Marshmallow.

However, it remains unclear when the company would start rolling out the Android Nougat update for these devices. Samsung may decide to reveal its plan of updating the device or it may even decide to just roll it out without any prior notice to fans. However, once the update is released, fans will finally be able to use the long-awaited Android operating system on their phones.

Android 7.0 Nougat features

The newer Android platform features many new aspects which the older Marshmallow did not have. Some of these features include split screen functionality, using which users can keep two apps open simultaneously on the screen at one time. Other features include an improved battery life and also the availability of newer emojis.
