Apple is expected to unveil the highly-anticipated #iPhone 8 in September this year. The iPhone 8 is the hottest topic in the tech industry these days. One of the most discussed features of the premium iPhone is long-range wireless charging. The Cupertino-based tech giant is rumored to bring much-needed wireless charging technology to the iPhone 8. Rumors suggest that the phone will feature a wireless charging system built by Energous. However, some reports claimed that Apple is building its own wireless charging technology for its upcoming iPhones. The company reportedly hired people from different companies to set up an in-house team of wireless charging experts. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that wireless charging will be a main selling point for the phone that could attract lower-end customers from the smartphone market.
OLED display
Apple is planning to use OLEDs in its upcoming smartphones. The iPhone 8 is expected to be the company’s first phone to use an OLED display. According to rumors, the premium smartphone will feature a 5.8-inch OLED display. OLEDs are better than LEDs, offering a brighter view and consuming less power. Apple reportedly inked a deal with Samsung Display to purchase approximately 20 million panels per month this year.
In addition, the company is planning to invest around $2.7 billion in LG's OLED production unit, according to a report by Korea Economic Daily.
Better camera
Apple is rumored to introduce a top-class camera technology in the 2017 premium iPhone model. The phone may feature a 16 megapixels rear camera and an 8 megapixels front-facing camera.
Rumors suggest that the phone will have a facing 3D sensor to support augmented reality as well as a 3D facial recognition camera supplied by LG Innotek to let users unlock the phone in a more secure way. It will scan the user’s face and unlock the phone within a few seconds.
Water resistant
Moreover, the 10th-anniversary iPhone is expected to be a better water resistant device. The premium iPhone is expected to come with an IP68 rating, compared to IP67 rating earned by the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. The IP68 rating means that the device could survive in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes.
iPhone 8 release date and price
The revolutionary iPhone is expected to arrive on September 6 along with the iPhone 7s Plus and the iPhone 7s.
However, some reports claim that the iPhone 8 will be unveiled in September but won’t go on sale until late November because of production issues related to OLED panels.
The iPhone 8 is expected to an expensive device. Rumors suggest that it will get a premium price tag of $1200.
