New spy photos of the upcoming 2018 Bmw X2 have floated on the web. Few months prior to the official launch of the new SUV, more chunks of information are unveiling. The automaker calls the 2018 BMW X2 the new SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle). The model is designed to come out between the X1 and X3 levels.

Here are some observations on the spotted prototype

The prototype of the new model has been spotted while testing under heavy wraps on public roads. It still seems difficult to conclude the final design but some significant hints can be noted.

One obvious aspect is the sportier look of the new SAV.

The taillights have been set at a higher position that contributes to the sportier design. In addition, the design of the rear windscreen seems to be another athletic factor.

The spy photos reported by AutoExpress also provide a first look at the interior of the car. The new model retains the infotainment screen and climate controls of its sibling, the X1. The brand’s iDrive controller is also present in the cabin, as well as the three-spoke steering wheel.

The new roofline can also be spotted from the mule. It appears that the rear window gradually narrows to the back of the vehicle.

Looking at the other set of spy photos as posted by Motor1, the upcoming X2 appears to have carried over a lot of the Concept design on the front fascia.

The minor refresh includes the headlights, which were revised to be more feasible in production, and the new pair of vents. Underneath the kidney grille, a new cladding can also be seen.

What has been previously revealed on the new SAV?

The new SAV will take on the brand’s UKL platform, representing the smaller BMW X1.

The new vehicle will run with either a 1.5- or 2.0-liter engine that can deliver a maximum of 134 hp and 228 hp respectively. The new model will be offered in gas and diesel engine variants.

Meanwhile, the final design has allegedly been leaked. Apparently, patent images have come out, revealing the full design of the new SAV.

According to the patent images posted by Carscoops, the new model sports angular headlights. However, this design does not look as sharp compared to the concept design.

Intriguingly, the front fascia of the prototype in the recent spy photos looks a little different from the patent images that have allegedly leaked. The front exhaust under the grilles of the spotted mule does not look consistent with the one on the patent rendering.

The 2018 BMW X2 is expected to make its grand debut in September at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Check out below clip of the allegedly leaked patent images.
