Earlier in June, Samsung, unveiled the 2017 models of the Galaxy J3, Galaxy J7, and Galaxy J5. The J7 will now be available in the United States and will be offered through Cricket Wireless. However, the handset will be appearing on Cricket Wireless with a slight change. The Galaxy J7 smartphone will be available under the name Galaxy Halo.

Smartphone coming to Cricket Wireless as Galaxy Halo

Thanks to reliable leakster Evan Blass, we now know how the Galaxy J7 or Galaxy Halo would look like. Blass shared an image of the Galaxy Halo handset bearing the Cricket logo on the back panel (with the Samsung branding on the front under the earpiece) on Twitter earlier this week.

He captioned the image as “samsung galaxy Halo (Galaxy J7 2017) for Cricket Wireless.”

As of now neither Blass not Cricket Wireless has stated a date as to from when the handset will be available in the U.S. based network operator’s store. It can be expected that the pre-paid carrier will let its potential consumers know about the arrival of the device. Blass, however, did not offer any other details on the impending smartphone.

Galaxy J7 features and specs

The Galaxy Halo is the successor of the J7 introduced in 2016. The Cricket Wireless variant of the smartphone will likely stick to the same specs and features as the original Android-powered smartphone.

The Galaxy Halo will likely boast a 5.5-inch FHD display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution and LTE Cat6 support like the original model.

The J7 2017 is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7870 processor, clocking at 1.6GHz. However, it is currently unclear whether the Galaxy Halo will be featuring some other processor or not. Apart from these features, the J7 comes with 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage.

However, the user can expand the memory to up to 16 GB via a microSD card.

The handset also sports a 13-megapixel rear and front facing snappers. However, unlike the other two Galaxy J series smartphones - the J3 (2017) and the J5 (2017) – this model comes with a bigger non-replaceable battery that boasts a 3,600 mAh capacity.

The smartphone also boasts a fingerprint scanner, which adds an added layer of security to the robust handset. The device comes pre-loaded with Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.

Whether the Cricket variant of the smartphone will offer any novel functionality or feature is not known at this juncture. The pricing for the Galaxy Halo smartphone is also not known.
