Prior to the release of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ globally, consumers in Samsung’s home country South Korea reported facing issues with the display of both devices. Owners of the smartphones reported that their device had a red tint on the display, which was not the natural color of the screen. Samsung largely ignored those complaints as it believed the issue to be isolated incidents that would not affect majority of the units.

However, after its worldwide release on April 21, Samsung received complaints from many owners who said that their devices suffered from the Red Tint issue.

In the face of such reports from all around the globe, the company promised that it would soon release an update which would rectify the red color.

Update rollout

On May 2, the fix to address the red tint display rolled out to the T-Mobile locked Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ devices. Users registered to other network carriers were left waiting for the crucial patch. On May 10, the update also started rolling out to AT&T locked handsets. After T-Mobile and AT&T, it seems Verizon is the next major carrier to receive the fix.

The Verizon update for the Galaxy S8 bears the serial number NRD90M.G950USQU1AQDF, whereas for the Galaxy S8+ the serial number is NRD90M.G955USQU1AQDF. The update mainly allows the user to fine tune the red tint on the phones display if their device has been affected by the reported issue.

It can be downloaded over-the-air through Wi-Fi or cellular data.

Of note — only installing the update will not modify the red tint on the display. After the installation of the update is complete, owners will need to go to Settings followed by Display and lastly Screen. Here users will be able to tweak the color temperatures to the setting which suits their needs.

Bixby Vision for Verizon Galaxy S8

Verizon’s latest update for the Samsung flagships of the year also includes added functionality for the Bixby assistant. All other variants of the flagship smartphones housed the Bixby Vision functionality at launch. However, the Verizon locked handsets for some reason did not support Bixby Vision.

With this update Bixby Vision will also get unlocked in the Verizon locked handsets.

Bixby Vision is the process by which owners can click the picture of a landmark, shopping product, or food and instantly receive information regarding them. In case of shopping, users can click a picture of a product and Bixby can search for the particular item and recommend to users where the concerned product is available.
