huawei has released its Watch 2 in the United States several weeks ago. However, now the company has gone ahead and started retailing another variant of the smartwatch, named the Watch 2 Classic. This classier and more stylish option of the smartwatch comes with a stainless steel body. It also features leather wristbands, whereas the original Watch 2 only had plastic band options.

Specs of the Watch 2 Classic

The Watch 2 Classic features a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with 390 x 390 pixels resolution. It also houses 768 MB of RAM and 4 GB of storage capacity, which cannot be expanded further.

The device runs on the Android Wear 2.0. This makes it compatible with both the iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.

The smartwatch sports a 420 mAh battery that will ensure long stretches of power. Some of the sensors inside the wearable include Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Barometer, Heart Rate Sensor, Ambient Light Sensor, Magnetic Sensor, and Vibration Motor. It is also equipped with a built-in dual microphone with noise cancellation capabilities.

An NFC chip is also present under the hood of the smartwatch, which will allow users to make payments through the device itself. Android Wear 2.0 also lets the wearable perform by itself and does not require the user to keep it in tandem with their smartphones.

Inside the box of the smartwatch, users will get a charger including a USB cable, the Watch 2 Classic, power adapter, quick start guide, safety information, and warranty card. However, one of the greatest problems with the wearable is the lack of LTE or any other cellular connectivity inside the device. This means that users will be unable to make calls or send texts using the smartwatch.

Huawei is trying to address this issue currently and is poised to release a device with LTE connectivity soon. However, no exact date for that release has been revealed yet.

Price and availability

Keeping in mind the design upgrade and the classier stainless steel body, the smartwatch sports a significantly higher price than its sibling, the Watch 2.

The new smartwatch is retailing at $369.99, which is $70 more than the Watch 2. However, this price is reasonable as the smartwatch now comes with leather bands instead of the plastic ones.

The Watch 2 Classic is available online through Best Buy, Newegg, and Amazon and can be picked up from any of the three. The price is the same across all the retailers. It remains to be seen just how well Huawei’s new smartwatch performs.
