Nintendo is reportedly planning to release a Classic version of one of the most iconic game consoles ever created, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. If the company is to follow its tradition, the new system might be named Snes Classic Edition.

According to reports, Nintendo might launch the SNES Mini in time for the Christmas season this year.

SNES Classic Edition to replace NES Classic Edition

Reports suggest that one of the possible reasons for Nintendo’s abrupt discontinuation of the popular NES Mini is to make way for the SNES Mini. Last week, the company explained that the NES Mini was not meant to be a long-term console and was only a novelty item for the Christmas of last year.

However, the NES Mini was a surprise hit and became more popular than Nintendo has ever anticipated, causing for the stocks to be sold out most of the time. The company was not able to extend the Classic Edition’s production run.

Expected games for the SNES Mini

Nintendo has not commented about the production of the SNES Mini, it is, however, very exciting to see the console to make a comeback for all generations to enjoy.

Here are a few games that people might want to see on the SNES Classic Edition.

  • Super Mario World, was released alongside the SNES in 1991 and one of the greatest games ever developed for the console. It’s impossible to think that the SNES Mini would not include this iconic platformer game.

  • Chrono Trigger is a time-travel RPG that pioneered many gaming conventions of today. It featured multiple endings and the New Game Plus, which allows the player to start from the beginning of the game with the current level of their characters intact.
  • Super Street Fighter II, is one of the most popular fighting games for the SNES. Developed by Capcom, the game’s characters are well-known by players around the world.
  • Earthbound, had become a cult classic despite having mediocre success when it debuted on the SNES.
  • Donkey Kong Country 2, has perfected the formula that made the original popular. With its sophisticated design and 3D characters, this game has become a staple for the SNES console.
