“Injustice 2,” developed by NetherRealm and created by “#Mortal Kombat” creator Ed Boon, has been talked about very heavily for the last year. The original “Injustice: Gods Among Us” was a huge hit and the sequel is already lining up to top its predecessor on May 16, 2017. However, as the release date approaches, you might be wondering what the roster for “#Injustice 2” will look like.

Fan favorites from the first game

Characters from the DC universe and their special move-sets were a fan favorite in the first game. Lackluster #DC heroes like Aquaman got to shine in the first game with his speedy trident move-set that could end any rival within the first minute of starting the match.

The greatest hits

Fan favorites and characters appreciated in media, like The Flash, Green Arrow, and Deathstroke also got to shine. Flash was a fiend with his moves that allowed him to attack and run, while his combination moves could utterly destroy any opponent if played right. Green Arrow and Deathstroke were both uniquely awesome ranged fighters, which was no surprise, but both characters were also deadly up close with moves that would make even the most hardcore “Mortal Kombat” friends cringe.

Justice League packs no punch!

Yet, characters like Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman often paled in comparison to their lesser known allies and enemies. All three of DC's typical Justice League trio were weak, slow, and their moves did significantly less damage than people like The Flash or even Aquaman.

Watch out for the power of rage

Injustice 2” hopes to capture the magic that made the first game unique, but the game also seems keen on introducing more lesser known DC heroes to the mainstream gaming public. Newcomers like Atrocitus, the leader of the aggressive Red Lantern Corps, and the infamous Cheetah have been confirmed for “Injustice 2.”

Here is every character announced for the long-awaited sequel:

  • Aquaman
  • Atrocitus
  • Bane
  • Batman
  • Black Canary
  • Blue Beetle
  • Brainiac
  • Catwoman
  • Cheetah
  • Cyborg
  • Darkseid
  • Deadshot
  • The Flash
  • Gorilla Grodd
  • Harley Quinn
  • Poison Ivy
  • Robin
  • Supergirl
  • Superman
  • Swamp Thing
  • Wonder Woman

Fan favorites make a comeback!

It is refreshing to see favorites from “Injustice: Gods Among Us” return on this list. Aquaman and The Flash are both welcome returns, with the standard trio of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman returning as well. However, most of the list of characters are largely new to the Injustice series. Given this knowledge, the fans are only left to wonder which of these characters are going to excel in the game.

Prepare for gory battles!

Atrocitus has garnered a lot of attention in the last five years with more Red Lantern comics popping up and appearances in the infamous “DC Universe Online.” As the leader of the Red Lantern Corps, a group formed out of some of the most rage filled beings in any universe ever, Atrocitus is perhaps one of the most exciting announcements for “Injustice 2.” He already has videos out showing some of his moves and more importantly his Red Lantern constructs which could turn the tide of battle.

New guys pack a punch

Blue Beetle, Deadshot, and Gorilla Grodd are going to be characters to keep an eye out for as well. Blue Beetle will play similar to Green Arrow, only with rockets instead of arrows, and Deadshot will likely be the replacement for the infamous assassin Deathstroke. Gorilla Grodd is also a welcomed addition with the potential to be one of those massive characters you want to keep at a distance.

Coming soon to a console near you!

It is unclear at this time if anyone else will be announced for “Injustice 2” before the release date. However, with two months left, we may begin to see more character announcements to help flush out the roster. Only twenty-one characters have been announced for the game, while “Injustice: Gods Among Us” had twenty-four fighters. Who could the last three be? Find out on May 16, 2017.
