Nintendo gave us all the information we had been wanting concerning the “Nintendo Switch” last week. However, the news has noticeably divided their fanbase. Many are furious over the lackluster launch titles, while others are exceedingly excited about the potential of the “Switch.”

This hasn’t stopped Nintendo from revealing several new titles they have planned for the coming year. But again, many are saying it is not enough, and Nintendo is treating this in similar fashion to the way the “Nintendo Wii” was launched. Even though the “Wii” was a resounding success, the level of maturity those consumers have reached could mean a horrendous downfall for Nintendo.

Has Nintendo made a mistake with the 'Nintendo Switch' launch?

Nintendo is gearing up for an impressive Holiday 2017. With titles such as “Splatoon 2," “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,"and even something concerning Sonic the Hedgehog on the way this year, the only thing seemingly missing was a new Mario title. Thankfully, Nintendo was ready to show off the new “Super Mario Odyssey” game, and I'm excited.

In “Super Mario Odyssey,” we will play as Mario in a fully realized 3D world. Some of the worlds look very much like a typical Mario title, but there are a few I find personally odd. The very realistic portrayal of a city comes to mind. I’m not saying Mario can’t be in a city, but part of the magic of a Mario game is the disassociation of reality and fantasy.

What's in store for Mario this time around?

In any event, there seems to be a solid mixture in what could be perceived as both “real world” environments and several colorful fantastical worlds we’ve come to expect from a Mario title. Bowser will be the main villain this time around, though the trailer does show other potential villains.

Mario also displays a new ability in the trailer, after all it wouldn’t be a new Mario title without Mario doing something totally new. He will be able to throw his cap in order to jump over larger gaps and possibly defeat enemies. We don’t know for certain if this will be an obtainable ability akin to previous powers Mario has had or if this will be something he obtains like the F.L.U.D.D.

machine he obtains at the beginning of “Super Mario Sunshine.”

No matter how you feel about the reveal of the “Nintendo Switch,” if you are a fan of Mario titles then you are anxious to get your hands on this upcoming title. “Super Mario Odyssey” is slated for release Holiday 2017.
