Telltale just released the trailer for their brand new episodic series based on DC's Batman franchise. The game is being billed as a mature and dark tale similar to Telltale's previous comic book games such as The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us.

Who can fans expect to see?

Fans will be thrilled to see familiar characters playing a role in this series. Characters that the trailer confirmed would be appearing include Carmine Falcone, Catwoman, a pre-Two-Face Harvey Dent, and Vicki Vale. Other Batman villains such as The Joker or The Riddler are absent from this trailer or any announcements by Telltale.

The voice cast

Batman and Bruce Wayne will be portrayed by Troy Baker. Baker is no stranger to the Batman franchise.

He's voiced the Caped Crusader in the Lego Batman games, Robin and Harvey Dent in Batman Arkham City, and The Joker in Batman Arkham Origins. He's also the only actor to have portrayed both Batman, Robin, Harvey Dent, and The Joker. Bruce's loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth, will be voiced by Enn Reitel; a Scottish actor known for his work in films such as Corpse Bride and the game Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Harvey Dent will be played by Travis Willingham of Naruto and Dragon Ball fame. Laura Bailey, a well known #Video Game actress and frequent collaborator with Troy Baker, will be voicing Catwoman.

The gameplay

The game is utilizing a non-photorealistic art direction similar to Jim Lee's artwork. To achieve this feat, Telltale has greatly updated their graphics engine. In addition, Telltale claims that the game will put you in control of Bruce Wayne as well as his alter ego.

Some situations give you the option of resolving them as Bruce Wayne or resolving them as Batman. While previous Batman games may have let players control Bruce Wayne briefly in playable flashbacks or tutorial sections, being able to choose whether to solve problems as Bruce Wayne or Batman is unique to this series. It's an interesting prospect given Telltale's history of providing players with tough ethical decisions.

Release and platforms

The first episode of the series, Realm of Shadows, is slated to release on August 2nd for Android, iOS, Windows, OS X, PS3, #PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
