On April 20th, Microsoft announced the end of production for the #Xbox360 console. First released on 2005, Xbox 360 had a rough start with technical problems – then named the “Red Ring of Death” – and many wondered if it would last. But the console’s resilience proved itself and it sold more than 80 million units over the last decade.

Now, as the end approaches, Microsoft ceased the product’s production. Nevertheless, it will still be available until the stores run out of it. Also, the company’s main focus on gaming will be the new #XboxOne, a product released on November 22, 2013.

Let it be noted that even without being the greatest bestselling console in it's generation, even Tech Radar recognizes #Xbox360 as the most influential one, especially considering how well the console did on distribution of digital products and the notoriously successful multiplayer gaming.

It can also be added that despite Wii’s popularity among amateur gamers, Xbox 360 was the first to invest on high definition games, even when most TVs were not even capable of reproducing such a high standard of quality.

The greatest legacy

But Xbox 360’s greatest legacy will most likely be the achievement system, which rewarded players for reaching impressive results. This system was later adopted by almost major player in the industry, like Steam, Battle.net and even PlayStation. So, this is a contribution by console that affected gamers of all platforms, no small feat considering how divided and loyal to their platforms gamers tend to be.

In the blog post used by Microsoft to announce the end of production, Phil Spencer said: “Xbox 360 means a lot to everyone in Microsoft. And while we've had an amazing run, the realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us”, so recognizing the console’s importance and clarifying that it’s end is just a commercial matter, not related to receding sales or lack of greatness by the 360 model.

Now, at least, Xbox gamers can find solace in the fact that the new model, #XboxOne, is one of the greatest consoles ever imagined, honouring his name and legacy with great titles and unbelievable graphics and realism. #Video Game
