Several new amiibo and amiibo functionality for upcoming games were announced by Nintendo in a press release obtained by Blasting News on Thursday, Jan. 21.

“New amiibo figures and functionality will keep surprising fans in 2016,” Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing said in a press release obtained by Blasting News on Thursday, Jan. 21. “All the upcoming amiibo prove that the must-have figures are continuing to evolve in unexpected and fun ways.”

According to Nintendo, Link, Toon Link, Zelda, Sheik and Ganondorf amiibo will work with the game as well:

“By tapping the Link or Toon Link amiibo, players can replenish their arrows, Nintendo said in the press release. “Tapping Zelda or Sheik will refill the player’s hearts, while, in a devious twist, tapping the Ganondorf figure will actually make Link take double the damage.”

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon series, Nintendo also confirmed that Jigglypuff, Charizard, Greninja and Lucario will be available once again in stores.

Star Fox Zero and Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games to have amiibo functionality

Set for release on April 22, Star Fox Zero will feature amiibo functionality, but no word on how they will impact the game. Nintendo did promise an immersive gameplay experience, however, saying the game will have a “unique control scheme that uses both the TV screen and the screen on the GamePad, players pilot multiple vehicles through intergalactic levels with Fox and his classic crew.”

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is set for a March 18 release on the 3DS family of consoles and will utilize both Mario and Sonic amiibo. Just like the upcoming Zelda title, Nintendo’s figures will play a prominent role.

By tapping the Mario or Sonic amiibo figures to the New Nintendo 3DS system (or on a Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL or Nintendo 2DS system using the NFC Reader/Writer accessory), players can boost Mario and Sonic’s outfits with that character’s power for the day.”
