The show opened with a video package to hype up Randy Orton vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for later on.

James Ellsworth introduced Carmella in the ring but got interrupted by Kevin Owens. He told him he was there to introduce himself as the special guest referee for his better half Carmella's match. Shane McMahon came out to tell Owens he would not make himself a referee tonight. He said he's given Owens lots of opportunities, but he needs to take responsibility for his losses. Owens told Shane he's the one who is responsible for his loss at "SummerSlam" and then again the following week when he pulled Baron Corbin out as the referee.

Owens continued to insult Shane McMahon, suggesting he does this crazy stuff because dad doesn't give him enough attention. He brought up Shane's kids and the helicopter crash landing.

Owens said everyone in the McMahon family may have been better off if Shane didn't survive, including his kids. Shane became enraged by the mention of his kids and attacked Owens sending him out of the ring. He tackled him across the announcers' table and kept on beating Owens down. Eventually, trainers had to pull them apart.

Daniel Bryan came to ringside to yell at Shane who seemed embarrassed by his behavior.

Backstage, Daniel Bryan tried to apologize to Kevin Owens for what happened out there but K.O. wasn't having it. He suggested he'll sue Shane, the McMahon family and all of the WWE. Bryan suggested maybe there's another way to handle all of this and Owens said he's right, he can go file criminal charges.

Natalya defeated Carmella via pinfall in a non-title matchup. James Ellsworth was ringside. Late in the match, Carmella escaped Nattie's Sharpshooter and hit head scissors. Ellsworth slipped the briefcase into the ring to try to help Carmella cash it in, but Carmella yelled at Ellsworth and called off the ref from cashing it in. Natalya was able to roll up Carmella for the win. Post-match, Carmella screamed about Ellsworth being a genetic defect and that she doesn't need him. She told him they were through.

Aiden English defeated Sami Zayn in under two minutes. English won the match in quick fashion. He tried to resume singing after his win but Zayn chased him up the ramp.

Daniel Bryan came out to the ring and called Shane McMahon down.

He addressed his actions from earlier where he attacked Kevin Owens. Shane tried to plead his case and said he'd talk to Owens to smooth things over. Bryan said it was too late for that as he spoke to Vince McMahon about the situation and Shane is suspended indefinitely. Bryan said he was sorry and walked off, leaving Shane in the ring to think it over.

Baron Corbin defeated Tye Dillinger in a match that went nearly 10 minutes. Dillinger had several near finishes but in the end, Corbin got a cheap shot in during a referee separation.

He ultimately hit End of Days to get the pinfall.

Later backstage, AJ Styles offered Dillinger another U.S. Championship shot since Baron Corbin cheap-shotted him tonight. There was another backstage segment where Ellsworth begged for forgiveness from Carmella. She said from now on they would do things her way and kissed him before slapping him.

Orton vs. Nakamura

Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura battled in the "SmackDown Live" main event. The winner of this match would earn himself a shot at Jinder Mahal for the WWE World Championship. The two superstars battled back and forth with the contest lasting over 13 minutes.

Late in the match, Randy Orton hit the draping DDT on Shinsuke Nakamura and prepared for an RKO.

He went for the finisher but Nakamura was able to reverse the move and pulled Orton into an armor triangle submission. Orton powered through for a power bomb move and went for the RKO again. Nakamura hit a backstabber then finished Orton with the Kinshasha for the win.

Backstage, they showed Kevin Owens talking to Daniel Bryan who informed him that Shane has been suspended so this is over now. Owens said things are just getting started and he will make "SmackDown" his "personal playground." Bryan told him that Mr. McMahon would be there next week to address the controversy.
