The Washington Redskins and the Los Angeles Rams will collide on Sunday in NFL football action. The game will take place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as the Rams look for their second straight home win to open the 2017/18 season.
Los Angeles enjoyed a comfortable victory last week, thumping the Indianapolis Colts with a 37-point margin of victory. Washington, on the other hand, enters the game 0-1, playing their first game on the road this season, after falling to the Philadelphia Eagles 30-17. The prospects of Los Angeles improving to 2-0 certainly don't look bad in this game as The Redskins are the ones that appeared to struggle to open the season.
Rams considered small favorites by betting lines
But despite the huge spread that Los Angeles posted last week, they are not entering the Washington game as huge favorites. The betting spread for the upcoming game makes the Rams just 2.5-point favorites against Washington (source: bet365), a spread that suggests that this contest will be a very close affair.
Kirk Cousins, the quarterback for the Redskins, didn't have a great game last week when it came to connecting deep. The Redskins addressed the problem on Friday with a social-media update to the franchise's official Youtube account. In a post entitled "Redskins Look To Improve Aerial Attack" Kirk Cousins said that "ultimately it comes down to executing." There has been turnover in Washington with the wide receivers since last year as starters in that position were lost in the free-agent market.
Perhaps this Washington team might look a bit different this season than last season, and that affects passing success. While one game isn't enough to make a reliable read, Cousins and his receiving core will be under some scrutiny in this game on Sunday.
No need to doubt Los Angeles
With the Rams, it's hard to be critical of a team that scored 46 points in week 1.
If anything, Todd Gurley didn't rush well, but he was effective as a receiver. It could be that Indianapolis stacked the box too much and that LA's offense simply recognized where to attack. Jared Goff threw for 306 yards for what was his first victory as a starter in the NFL. At the age of 22, the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft is an interesting player to watch in the games ahead.
The week-2 game between the Redskins and the Rams will come from Los Angeles and it will be aired on FOX. It is a part of the middle set of games on Sunday with a start time of 4:25pm ET (1:25pm PT).
