After hitting a snag, the transfer of Cavs point guard Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics pushed through. The blockbuster deal almost fell through when Isiah Thomas failed his physical with the Cleveland Cavaliers. It can be membered that the Celtics point guard aggravated his hip injury during the Eastern Conference Finals last season. Under the new NBA rule, a trade can be voided if one of the players involve fails his physical examination. The incident threw a monkey wrench on the biggest trade this off season has ever seen.

Celtics added a 2002 2nd round draft pick

With the health of Isiah Thomas in question, the trade deal was almost voided by the Cleveland Cavaliers. They then demanded another first round draft pick on top of the previous deal if the Celtics would like the deal to continue. The Celtics in return offered a 2020 2nd round draft pick they obtained from Mimi. With the deadline looming the Cavs agreed to the proposal. A botched deal could have dire consequences for both teams.

Kyrie Irving will be finally introduced as a Celtics player in a news conference Friday night. Isiah Thomas meanwhile belittled his injury in his own press conference. He is on a rehabilitation program and informed ESPN that he will definitely play this season.

Nobody has informed him that he is already damaged goods. Not even his doctor had informed him of such and he expects to return to action better than ever.
