The Kansas City Chiefs may have won a huge season opening victory but suffered a great loss on defense, losing Eric Berry. Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars had to put their fourth-round pick Dede Westbrook on injured reserve. The Oakland Raiders also had to do the same with veteran Sebastian Janikowski.

Eric Berry's season is over

The Kansas City Chiefs announced yesterday that star safety Eric Berry's season was over after playing only one game. He had suffered a ruptured Achilles towards the end of the fourth quarter when he was covering tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Berry looked hobbled at the end of the play and then sat on the turf to be examined before being carted off.

Today the team officially place Berry on injured reserve and re-signed running back CJ Spiller to take his spot on the active roster. This is the third major injury the All-Pro has dealt with in his career as he missed most of 2011 with an ACL injury and a majority of the 2014 season battling lymphoma.

This past offseason Berry was given a six-year, $78 million contract by the team. It will be hard for the Chiefs to replace Berry, as he is considered one of the best defensive players in the NFL. In his career, he has made the Pro Bowl five times and been named a 1st Team All-Pro three times.

Rookie Dede Westbrook also put on IR

The Jacksonville Jaguars put rookie wide receiver Dede Westbrook on injured reserve due to a core muscle injury that has been bothering him. Westbrook, who starred at Oklahoma, was taken in the fourth round and led all Jaguars receivers with 228 receiving yards in the preseason. He will be eligible to come off of injured reserve after eight weeks.

To take his spot on the active roster, the team signed safety Calvin Pryor off of waivers from the Cleveland Browns.

Raiders put Janikowski on IR days after contract agreement

It was only two days ago that the Oakland Raiders and longtime kicker Sebastian Janikowski agreed to a new deal in order to resolve their contract difference.

Now, the 39-year-old kicker has been placed on injured reserve with a back injury. The veteran has not missed a game for the Raiders since not playing in week 16 of the 2001 season.

To replace him the Raiders signed Giorgio Tavecchio off of their practice squad. He has been with the team each of the last four preseasons and is 9/11 on field goals in the preseason. Janikowski will be eligible to come off of injured reserve after eight weeks if the team chooses to do so.
