The 2017 NFL regular season schedule kicks off in two weeks, and once again millions of football fans will begin to rejoice as the king of all sports returns. Fans of the game won’t be the only one’s celebrating the return of the pigskin - Las Vegas sports books will be joining in as well. With hundreds of seasonal prop bets available for people to throw their hard earned dollars on, sports books everywhere are anticipating another big year of wagering.

Prop Bets on NFL rookies

One of the hot scenarios to wager on at the moment in the NFL is which Rookie(s) will be successful in the upcoming season.

Prop bets on which players will take home the “Offensive and Defensive player of the Year” award are always popular, and this year is no exception. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott literally made some lucky gamblers a small fortune in 2016 who wagered on him to win the offensive ROY Award last season.

Prescott was one of the biggest underdogs on the Vegas odds board last season to take home the award at +50,000. As we all know now, Prescott took the NFL by storm and won the the award with ease. Will we see another unexpected rookie dominate the league again in 2017? If you think so, now is the time to wager on it. On a side note, it seems that historically the player who wins this award has gone on to have a pretty darn good career, at least in recent years.

Recent winners include Cam Newton (2011), Odell Beckham Jr (2014) and Todd Gurley (2015).

Fournette, Garrett early favorites

Dak Prescott may not have been on many experts' radars to take home the Offensive ROY in 2016 when the season began, but he is proof that the games are played on the field, not on paper.

Heading into 2017, several top draft picks are favored to win the award, including Jacksonville’s Leonard Fournette and Carolina’s Christian McCaffrey on the offensive side of the ball, while Cleveland’s Myles Garrett and the 49ers Reuben Foster are the clear cut early favorites this season.

Garrett comes into this season with heavy expectations as he was selected No. 1 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Last year, San Diego’s Joey Bosa won the award on the defensive side.
