With the WWE "SummerSlam" 2017 pay-per-view not that far away, fans are already speculating on what matches might be on the card. There are rumors going around in regard to the championship match, but also another major rumor that arrived a few days ago online. It appears that the highly-popular heel stable known as The Shield has a possibility of reuniting at the summer spectacle for WWE. Here's the latest on the rumors involving the trio potentially joining forces again.

What's the story?

The Wrestling Rumors website reported several days ago that there will be a two-on-three handicap match set for the "SummerSlam" PPV.

That match will feature Seth Rollins teaming up with Dean Ambrose to take on current WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz, and his Miztourage. Fans saw on the past week's episode of "Raw" that both Rollins and Ambrose came to the aid of each other, despite some words between them suggesting they'd handle their own business.

Meanwhile, Roman Reigns has a scheduled match against Samoa Joe on next week's "Raw" with the winner becoming the new No. 1 contender to face Brock Lesnar for his Universal title. It was suggested by Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez that if Joe wins and gets another shot at Lesnar, it will mean Reigns needs another match. That's where he could team up with Ambrose and Rollins to take on Miz and his sidekicks.

It seems possible and could draw the sort of popular response that WWE wants as they keep trying to establish Reigns as their top guy with the fans.

Other possible matches

In addition to The Shield rumors, there have also been rumors that the WWE Universal Championship won't be Brock Lesnar defending it one-on-one, but instead in a Fatal Fourway match.

The three other competitors in that match would be Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns, and Braun Strowman. That could mean that Strowman returns to "Raw" next Monday and interferes in the No. 1 contender match involving Reigns and Joe. It would lead "Raw" GM Kurt Angle to set up a Fatal Fourway due to the finish. So the finish of that particular match, or the aftermath will play a big part in the "SummerSlam" card.

That may not be the only Fatal Fourway match either. Its being rumored that the WWE "Raw" Women's title could also be defended in this manner. Competing in the match will be the foursome that have been squaring off each week on "Raw," with Bayley, Nia Jax, and Sasha Banks as challengers to current champion Alexa Bliss.

WWE fans, what types of matches do you want to see at the 2017 edition of the "SummerSlam" PPV?
