While Jurgen Klopp have managed to add “record signing” Mohamed Salah to his squad this summer it has not been such “smooth sailing” elsewhere in the market. Two of Liverpool's top transfer targets, RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita and Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk have proven rather more “elusive” to bring to Liverpool this summer.

Regarding Naby Keita, Bundesliga club RB Leipzig are seriously demanding a “hefty” transfer fee if they're to sell the Guinea international with the “possible outlay” possibly around $91m. Which is too expensive for such a player like Keita.

Southampton accused the Red Merseysiders of illegally inducing Virgil van Dijk but, even though Liverpool publicly announced they were no longer interested in the Dutchman, a move is “supposedly” still on the cards.

However, should Jurgen Klopp fail to get either deal done, these are the four alternative options Liverpool should consider signing this summer:

Stefan de Vrij — SSS Lazio

If the Red Merseysiders cannot finalize a deal for Southampton's Virgil de Dijk then probably they should look at Stefan De Vrij. The Lazio defender has massively developed into a “dependable” center back since joining Lazio from Dutch club Feyenoord in 2014, and has been extensively linked with a move to Liverpool for some time now.

The Dutchman made twenty-seven appearances in a Lazio team that ended up fifth in the Italian Serie A last season, but could “renew” his deal with the Italian club any time soon.

Kalidou Koulibaly — Napoli

This is another fullback currently plying his soccer trade in Italy who could be seen as an “alternative” for Liverpool. Kalidou Koulibaly is an “imposing” presence standing at 6 feet 5 inches tall and has the strength “in abundance.” The Senegalese international his much admired for the way he has immensely developed in the last three years at Napoli and could well be a “highly successful” partner for Joel Matip in the defense if lured to Anfield.

Davinson Sanchez — Ajax Amsterdam

Another left back alternative would be Davinson Sanchez who arguably enjoyed a “breakthrough” season at Ajax Amsterdam last term. The 21-year-old Colombia defender has a lot of “growing” to do but the signs he showed were “positive” as he firmly established himself as the club's first choice left back.

Sanchez could be another interesting choice for Jurgen Klopp to sign this summer window.

Jean-Michael Seri — OGC Nice

Seri is a wanted player following his brilliant midfield performances last term with the likes of Barcelona and even AS Roma aiming for his signature. The Red Merseysiders could yet make a move as the Ivorian star would ideally “represent” a better option. The 25-year-old maybe a “diminutive” player, but he excel in the defense and managed to bag 7 goals last term in the French Ligue 1.
