Free agent point guard Derrick Rose has committed to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, league sources have confirmed. The deal has been confirmed as he has signed a one year $2.1 million contract. This is probably not the signing that players such as LeBron James were anticipating as Kyrie Irving has requested a trade from the Cavaliers.

Why Derrick Rose is a positive pick up

But attaining Derrick Rose is still very positive as in 2016 he averaged 18.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists with the New York Knicks. These are still decent numbers, but of course, he isn't the same player anymore.

But this is still a great pickup for the Cavaliers.

Derrick Rose's lengthy search for a new home will now officially come to an end of course. Irving reportedly wants to leave the Cavaliers to lead his team, which is compelling. But with Derrick Rose, he is on the opposite side of the spectrum. Knee injuries have been an issue with the former Bulls superstar over the years. This really calls into question what it means for Irving. Does this signing officially mean he will be gone? Maybe Irving will remain with the team, or maybe he will be leaving at some point before the season commences.

This has left him the option of playing the role of support to LeBron James and the Cavaliers for an opportunity at an NBA championship.

Rose has not played in more than 66 games since his MVP campaign in 2010-11 with Chicago. So this leaves us to question how he will do with the Cavaliers. But of course playing with Lebron should be an interesting change for him.

Controversial? I think So!

Whenever you get a chance to play with rather than against Lebron James, it is always a positive.

In regards to how Lebron feels, on Twitter, it seems as though fans believe that he isn't too content with the signing, but this might not be too accurate. It could be that Lebron wants to win the NBA Championship. I guess Rose will just have to prove that he can help the team get there. This will, of course, be difficult but never say never.

Signing Derrick Rose was obviously more than a rumor as it has speculated for some time now. But reports in May anticipated that he would go to the Spurs or T-Wolves. But Cleveland is his new home. It will be very interesting to see how the 2016/2017 season will progress and what the standing will look like. The T Wolves and The Rockets have made some significant changes that will help push their chance at the title. At the end of the day, fans will have their own opinions on the move with Rose, but only time will tell and see if the pick up was a step in the right direction. Sometimes you got to take risks, as they will pay off. Sometimes things need to change as change can be good.
