Cleveland Cavaliers made a big move today as they agreed to a contract with the former MVP. Derrick Rose is the newest member of the Cavaliers and he will spend next year in Cleveland. This move will certainly help the team close the gap with the Golden State Warriors as Rose is a great player and they got him for cheap.

Cleveland did not have many options when it came to Derrick Rose as they could only offer him a veteran's minimum contract or the remainder of their mid-level exception. At the end, the two sides agreed to a one-year deal which is worth just above $2 million.

Considering that the point guard is a great player who is capable of being a great starter as well as a backup, this deal should pay off for the 2016 NBA champions.

Rose's contract details

As ESPN's Chris Haynes reported, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Derrick Rose agreed to a one-year contract worth $2.1 million. Undoubtedly, Rose will be one of the most underpaid players in the NBA next season and the Cavaliers hit a jackpot with this deal.

Even though his best years are far behind him, Rose can still play well and help the Cavaliers win another championship title.

Rose last played for the New York Knicks and he averaged 18.0 points with them last season. The point guard also averaged 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the field. He was paid over $21 million last year and it's surprising that he accepted such a big pay cut, but it could definitely pay off for him.

"He just wants to focus on winning basketball games," said B.J. Armstrong, Derrick Rose's agent. Considering how good the Cavaliers are and that they will most likely reach their fourth straight NBA Finals next year, Rose definitely picked a great team and he could revive his career in Cleveland.

Will Kyrie Irving leave?

Derrick Rose is capable of being a starter on a championship team and it's questionable if he could adapt to the bench easily.

This move by the Cavaliers could indicate that they are ready to move on from Kyrie Irving, who expressed his wish to be traded.

While Irving is a much better and younger than Rose, if the Cavaliers get good players in exchange for him, they could be a much better team next season. They spent only $2.1 million on Rose and by trading Irving to another team not only could they get some great players in return, but they could also unload a few big contracts and decrease their luxury tax bill for the next season.
