While the WWE "Battleground" 2017 pay-per-view is still over a month away, there are WWE rumors of at least one match that could be part of the card. The latest speculation involves current WWE World Champion Jinder Mahal and the type of match he may defend his title in at the event. If true, it would mark the first time that this particular match has been a part of WWE in 10 years. Here are the latest details on WWE "Battleground" 2017 and what match may make its return to the card.

Returning match?

Its been noted by Sportskeeda as of Tuesday that WWE's "Battleground" could feature the return of the Punjabi Prison Match.

It will most likely involve Jinder Mahal defending the WWE World Championship, but as of this report it's unknown which superstar will challenge him.

WWE star John Cena is set to make a return as of July 4th to "SmackDown Live." However, his WWE graphics that have been shown to advertise Cena's return indicate he'll be a "free agent," which could mean that he will move between the two shows. He would need to win some sort of No. 1 contender's match unless a title shot is given to Cena upon his return.

Randy Orton seems like a strong potential candidate to face Jinder once again. In their two meetings so far, The Singh Brothers got involved. In a match with the Punjabi Prison rules, it could be tougher for them to interfere.

The special gimmick match features two cages made of bamboo sticks. There is one smaller cage around the ring and then a larger cage around that one. The winner is the first competitor to escape both cages. There are doors on the bamboo cages that eventually become locked, forcing the competitors to have to climb out, over the wall -- similar to steel cage match rules.

In addition, weapons can come into play.

The Punjabi Prison match originally debuted at the 2007 WWE "No Mercy" pay-per-view. The match saw The Great Khali challenge then-champion Batista for the title. "The Animal" ended up winning the match in under 15 minutes to retain the championship.

When is the 'Battleground' PPV?

The WWE "Battleground" 2017 pay-per-view takes place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This "SmackDown Live" exclusive event will be held on Sunday, July 23rd, 2017. As of this report, the only rumored match on the "Battleground" card is the "Punjabi Prison Match."

If this match takes place, will Jinder Mahal be able to retain the championship again, and if so, who will his opponent be for the match?
