Yesterday, amid sources talking about how Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was about to become the highest paid player in the NFL, there was less positive news for the league. Two different players, defensive lineman Letroy Guion of the Green Bay Packers and linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin of the New York Jets were both arrested.

Letroy Guion arrested in Hawaii

Green Bay Packers starting defensive lineman Letroy Guion was arrested early yesterday morning while on vacation for his birthday in Hawaii. He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence.

When being testing during a routine traffic stop for DUI, Guion's blood alcohol level came out to a .086. He was arrested and later released on $500 bail.

Unfortunately for Guion, this isn't that first time that he has had off-field problems. He had already been suspended the first four games of the upcoming season for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy. Back in 2015, he was suspended for the first three games of the season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. During his last year in college at Florida State, he was suspended from the Music City Bowl as part of an academic cheating scandal.

Letroy Guion was originally drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round back in 2008.

Following six seasons with the Vikings, where he developed into a starter, he left to join the rival Packers. For his career, Guion has played in 112 games and started 66 of them. He has a total of 111 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.

Jets's Lorenzo Mauldin arrested and charged

New York Jets linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin turned himself in to be arrested yesterday and was charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from an incident that took place on April 2nd.

He is being accused on punching a man, 22-year-old Jean Lopez, in the face during a nightclub altercation. Mauldin could face up to a year in jail and may also be disciplined by the NFL for his actions. He is also being handed a civil suit by Lopez, who says he suffered multiple facial fractures because of the attack.

Lorenzo Mauldin was a third-round pick by the Jets out of Louisville.

In his first two seasons with the team, Mauldin played in 26 games, only starting 4 of them. He has 14 career tackles, 6.5 sacks and 1 fumble recovery. After the team released linebacker David Harris, Mauldin was being projected as a starting linebacker.
