The Nebraska basketball team's contending for a good seed in the Big Ten Tournament was rather short-lived. After the Huskers' beat Penn State by 16 and topped Ohio State by a point, it looked as though Nebraska was on the upswing. There was even talk that they might be able to make some noise in the tournament. Now the team is firmly in a position where they are likely going to be going up against Rutgers in a kind of Big Ten Tournament play-in game. This team no longer looks like a team that can take on all comers and that's bad news for Nebraska head coach Tim Miles.

Losing much more than winning

On Thursday night, the Nebraska basketball team suffered its third straight double-digit loss. In fact, it was the third straight game in which the Huskers lost by 15 or more points. The third straight loss dropped the team's record to 12-17 overall and 6-11 in the Big Ten. It also marked the team's 11th loss in 14 games after a surprising 3-0 start to conference play. In other words, Nebraska hasn't just been getting beat badly recently, they've been getting beat consistently since conference play tipped off.

The Huskers' final regular season game is on Sunday against a Michigan team that is going in the opposite direction. The Wolverines have posted a 19-11 record and a 9-8 record in conference.

Nebraska is looking at a 12-18 finish to their regular season record.

Tim Miles back on the hot seat

Nebraska basketball head coach Tim Miles has had a teeter totter type season when it comes to job security. When the team started out 3-0 in the Big Ten, there were some who were talking about the magic he was working. When the Huskers returned to earth, there was talk that he might not be able to finish out the season.

Wins over Purdue and Ohio State, as well as a near victory over Wisconsin had him firmly retained once again.

Now, with the team looking tired and ready for the season to be over, Miles might be in trouble once again. For his, and the Nebraska basketball team's sake, the squad needs to play as though their coach's career is on the line. It's possible that it might be.
