Rory McIlroy, the 27-year-old Irish golfer, accepted an offer to play golf with US President Donald Trump at the fairways in Trump International, Florida. This decision of Rory has led to criticism with labels of a ‘bigot’ and a ‘fascist, ’ but he brushed it all off saying that it was just a game of golf and there was no hidden agenda. In fact, he appreciated the way President Trump played and felt that it was a beautiful game for a man of his age.

Rory justified his actions

The Irishman justified his actions. He does not always agree with what others in his family or among his friends say but, he plays with them because he loves the game.

In that context, when he got the invitation to play with the President of the US, he did not hesitate to accept for the simple reason that it was respect for the office that the President holds.

Rory went on to add that it was not any endorsement or a political statement. The common factor was the game, nd he treated it like that. He has traveled to different parts of the world and has made friends with people who belong to different beliefs and cultures. Hence, branding him as a ‘bigot’ or a ‘fascist’ was not correct.

The chance to engage in a game of golf with the President of the most powerful country in the world is a matter of pride for any player and Rory McIlroy was no exception. In spite of what others may say, he will always cherish the memories and share them with his near and dear ones.

His future plans

Rory is apparently nursing an injury and expects to return to action next week in Mexico to play in the World Golf Championship tournament of the PGA. It was to have been held in the Trump-owned Doral course in Miami but the venue was shifted to Mexico and that had not gone down well with Donald Trump, who later became president.

Incidentally, Mexico is in the sights of President Donald Trump for reasons not related to golf – he plans to build a border wall to prevent entry of illegal immigrants into the US from across the border.
