While Nebraska football brought in its share of talent at wide receiver on National Signing day, the Huskers are always looking for more talent. This is especially true when talking about bringing in a veteran presence at the wide out spot, considering that most of the guys who will be suiting up at receiver will be underclassmen. Every once in a while the opportunity to bring in a real veteran presence rears its head and this is the case with Kentucky graduate transfer Jeff Badet.

The departure of Jeff Badet

Wildcat receiver Jeff Badet announced on his Twitter account that while he loved his time at Kentucky and the progress the team had made recently in rebuilding the program, he decided he wanted to go elsewhere for the fifth year of eligibility.

There is some talk that he's looking for a school that will allow him to put up better numbers than the 31 catches and 670 yards with four touchdowns he logged in the 2016 season. Those 670 yards led the Wildcats in receiving yards, but it's pretty clear Kentucky leaned heavily on the run game for a good part of the season. It seems as though the Nebraska football team could be a good landing spot, thanks to his experience in big-time college football. He could step into a team leader role relatively quickly while taking youngsters under his wing.

The Huskers interest

Because Badet just announced his intention to transfer a few days ago, it's impossible to know whether or not the Nebraska football team has even contacted the Kentucky player yet.

What we do know is that Todd McShane, the Huskers' Associate Director of Player Personnel, has recently begun following the possible graduate transfer. This shows that Nebraska at the very least has some passing interest to see where he might wind up. Now it's just a matter of whether or not the Cornhuskers decide Badet is someone who can fill a roster hole. Then the school will have to see if the receiver believes he's going to be able to get the playing time and catches he's looking for in his final season. From the outside it looks like a good match.
