Fans of the NBC hit show "This Is Us" have waited quite some time for a new episode. The fall finale of the show aired on November 28 and after six long weeks, the winter premiere will air on January 9. The last three episodes before the break focused on the Big Three, and each had an episode which dove deep into their lives. Viewers of the show learned a lot more about each of the three Pearson children, and all of that will undoubtedly tie into the second half of the season.

A family of addicts

Season 2 is 11 episodes in with seven left to go.

The winter premiere of "This is Us" kicked off with an episode titled "The Fifth Wheel." The official summary of the episode said that the Pearsons come together under unexpected circumstances. Meanwhile, Jack surprises the family with a summer vacation.

The unexpected circumstances that brought the Pearson family together was a visit to Kevin in rehab. Kevin introduced everyone to his therapist, Barbara, and then the therapist held a counseling session with Kevin and the immediate family. While Kevin's siblings and mom were all meeting with him and Barbara, Toby, Beth and Miguel grabbed a beer at a local bar.

The therapist said she wanted to get down to the source of Kevin's addiction. Kevin admitted he felt like he was the fifth wheel of the family when growing up, and that may have brought on his addiction.

He then proceeded with bringing to light that he's an addict because he comes from a family of addicts, meaning his father Jack and his grandfather.

Kevin's revelation brought to the surface a myriad of emotions to Rebecca, Randall, and Kate. They always seem to only speak about how wonderful Jack was as a father and husband.

His struggle with alcohol was not discussed openly until now. There is no doubt that the upcoming episodes will look further into Jack's addictions.
