After much speculation, it is now confirmed that “Prison Break” Season 6 will return to the small screen. However, it looks like the show will be in an overhaul as it is now in the works.

At the recent Television Critics Association’s press tour, Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn revealed that the series will be in a new iteration. “We are developing a new iteration of ‘Prison Break,’” he said.

The idea of doing a new season

For now, “Prison Break” Season 6 is still in the early stages of development, no final thing is known about it yet. But in an interview with Fox Chairman and CEO Gary Newman, he told Entertainment Weekly that the serial drama’s new chapter won’t have an entirely new cast.

The show’s creator Paul Scheuring thought of an idea to create a new season. He later pitched it to Thorn and the series’ whole team. Although they are all excited about it, it is still too early yet to reveal what will happen next. “We haven’t seen any written materials at all,” Newman said.

A stronger narrative

On the other hand, in an earlier interview with EW, Scheuring said that he was quite reserved to do “Prison Break” Season 6. In fact, he even called the show’s previous season a “close-ended story.” So, to continue its story and create another season, he knew that he had to come up with an "equally strong" or a much-stronger narrative.

Scheuring didn’t give up thinking of a new story, but he promised that they will never do it just for the sake of doing it.

“It has to be great,” he assured. The show’s actors are also keen on doing a new season of the series. However, it is not yet known how things will roll out. He hinted that there will be a possibility that it would be based on other sources, but nothing is sure yet.

The two brothers’ return

With all the remarks, it is now a big question what would “new iteration” mean in the upcoming “Prison Break” Season 6.

There are theories that the show’s main story will be shifting away from its lead characters', Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), usual prison escape.

Thorn assured that Purcell and Miller will be seen in the show, although they both have hectic schedules doing “Legends of Tomorrow” and “The Flash.” “I fully expect both brothers will be involved in the series,” he said. But, he explained that he is assuming that they are all available as there are a lot of things to do bringing the entire cast together, especially when they all have busy careers.
