Barbara Broccoli is the producer of the popular James Bond Spy series. It has been a lucrative venture for her and she is apparently toying with the idea of imparting a new look to the character. James Bond 007 has kept the audience enthralled ever since the 1960s with “Dr. No” being the first one in the series. Many actors have portrayed the role of the spy starting with Sean Connery and, right now, the man is Daniel Craig. However, in case he wants to leave, the role could go to a newcomer.

Daily Mail UK reports that Barbara has dropped hints about the future, and has indicated that the character could be a woman or an African-American.

The name of James Norton, a TV star, had been tipped for the role but things could change overnight.

Will things change?

Albert 'Cubby' Broccoli was Barbara’s father and he had handled the James Bond franchise from the beginning. He converted it into the world's biggest spy film franchise and handled Ian Fleming’s stories with an experienced hand to churn out box office hits right from the first film.

Barbara Broccoli (57) is also keen to leave her footprints on the sands of time and wants to experiment. In her opinion, one has to keep pace with the times and a new look spy could become a hit with the audience. When she was asked whether one could see a female Bond or an African-American 007, she said anything was possible.

In fact, she has already succeeded in reinventing the master spy by roping in Daniel Craig to replace Sir Roger Moore. In 2015, Craig had decided to step down but finally went ahead with the fifth film.

Imagine a woman Bond

Sir Roger Moore was a close friend of Barbara Broccoli and had acted as James Bond in seven feature films from 1973 to 1985.

These were Live and Let Die (1973), “The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), “The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), “Moonraker (1979), “For Your Eyes Only (1981), “Octopussy (1983) and “A View to a Kill” (1985).

Sir Roger Moore died in May at the age of 89 and had commented that people talk about wanting to see a woman as the spy Bond.

That would mean a major deviation from the character created by Ian Fleming which may not go down with the audience.

Any James Bond movie is always a treat to watch with its display of unique gadgets and elaborate sets. The actions are usually set in foreign locations, and the spy 007 invariably outwits his opponents to emerge victoriously. Such movies will never fail because they help to neutralize the effects of action-packed sci-fi movies or animated films that deal with prehistoric creatures like dinosaurs.
