October 2, 2017, will be remembered as a day of double-mourning. The unthinkable has occurred; when several lives were lost in the wake of the tragic Las Vegas shootings and now the death of one of the greatest rock legends of all time, Tom Petty; who has reportedly passed away today of severe cardiac arrest at age 66.

Paul McCartney tweeted this:

Tom Petty the rock legend remembered

According to a report on TMZ, his wife, Dana York, called emergency 911 today stating that Tom was found unconscious and not breathing and suffered a massive heart attack.

Conflicting reports in the media refuse to admit that Tom is actually dead but is clinging to life in the hospital. A chaplain was called to Tom's room.

Sirius XM and Tom’s own radio channel, Tom Petty Radio, has reported that the rock legend is still in the hospital hanging by a thread and they pulled the plug on his life support. They are not confessing that he’s officially dead. They have been taking calls from fans around the country, to pay tribute to the rock icon. His band, Tom Petty, and the Heartbreakers just celebrated their 40th anniversary with a special concert and some fans on the station were calling to share their concert experiences.

Tom Petty will be missed by all his fans

TMZ reported that Tom looked frail when he was last seen walking around L.A.

His family and friends were very concerned about him. There have been conflicting reports circulating the media that the rocker might be still alive and is clinging to life at the hospital. Most media outlets, like CBS News, are reporting him dead.

He had a long-standing successful career with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in the 80s and beyond.

He also won many fans with his solo albums, including "Wildflowers." He was a member of the supergroup, The Traveling Wilburys with ELO’s Jeff Lynne, the late Roy Orbison and George Harrison and he recently played at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY with his own band, Mudcrutch.

He and Jeff Lynne were buddies and worked together on each other's albums.

When Jeff Lynne got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Tom Petty was there to share in his glory and present it to his best friend. Currently, Jeff Lynne and ELO are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Tom Petty will likely get inducted this year with the 2018 nominees being announced even though he's passed away.

No one anticipated that Halloween and the Grim Reaper would arrive this early, on this first official week of October with all these deaths occurring.

Throughout this Columbus Day holiday, tributes will continue to pour into Tom Petty and to the victims of the tragic shooting in Las Vegas. Both will never be forgotten.
