Charlie Heaton arrives for ‘Stranger Things’ season 2 premiere

It happened prior to the second season premiere party for “Stranger Things” on Thursday, where Heaton was supposed to meet his co-stars to celebrate the release of season 2.

While Winona Ryder, Millie Bobbie Brown and other actors were there to enjoy the party, Heaton was on his way back to London.

On Heaton’s arrival at Los Angeles International Airport, drug-sniffing dogs tracked down the traces of cocaine on his personal items in his luggage, leading him to be detained. While the British actor was not arrested, he was immediately sent back home.

The Hollywood Reporter quotes a law enforcement official as saying Heaton did admit to using drugs. While confirming Heaton had been sent back to London, the official would give no further comment on the subject and only spoke on condition of anonymity.

However, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Jaime Ruiz, said foreign nationals may be barred from entering the U.S. over a crime involving possession of drugs. Ruiz continued by saying officials treat all international travelers with respect, integrity, and professionalism, but they do need to keep the highest levels of security.

Heaton’s future in ‘Stranger Things’ now uncertain?

Heaton plays the role of Will Byers older brother Jonathan in “Stranger Things.” In season 1, Will was the center of the story as he disappeared from home, ending up in the “Upside Down” and leading to a frantic search. In season 2 Heaton’s character Jonathan can be seen to be supportive of his younger brother, who continues to have strange, supernatural experiences since his return to the normal world.

The Hollywood Reporter attempted to contact Heaton for comment, but without success. Deadline contacted Netflix about the incident asking for comment on the British actor’s future in “Stranger Things,” but they also declined to comment.
