The eighth and final season of the highly popular HBO series “Game of Thrones” will be a bittersweet ending for die-hard fans. However, one of the show’s most beloved actors, Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow in the series, said that it’s the right time for the show to end, according to an interview with Digital Spy.

Harington added that eight years is just the right amount of time and he wouldn’t go on any longer than that. He also plans to focus on other things after the show ends in 2019. One thing is certain though that fans will be extremely sad when they see the iconic Jon Snow character’s final scene.

It’s still hard to say goodbye to Jon Snow

The 30-year-old actor may be ready to say goodbye to his most defining character he’s ever played, but that doesn’t mean he won’t shed a tear when the show actually ends.

Harington explained to Digital Spy that the end of “Game of Thrones” will be very emotional for both cast and crew. He stated that “I was exchanging emails with David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] last night and we were all getting very soppy and emotional with each other.”

However, Harington also admitted that he would be glad to take a year off after the show’s end, and never have to reshoot episodes, which really consumes most of his time for the past several years. He said that a whole season takes six months to shoot and within that timeframe, there’s nothing else he can do.

Kit Harington wants to move on to other projects

Harrington, playing the role of Jon Snow, really helped his career in such a big way. However, he’s also planning to focus on other projects after the show finally ends.

Harington wants an active role in producing more than anything else. Digital Spy cited that Harington finds it very fascinating to be on the producer side of a show after being involved with BBC One’s “Gunpowder.”

Gunpowder” is a British TV drama that was developed by Harington, along with Ronan Bennet and Daniel West.

Harington also stars in the three-part series that will debut on Oct. 21 in the United Kingdom.

The final season of ‘Game of Thrones’

The eighth season of “Game of Thrones” is being filmed in Belfast, Northern Ireland and is expected to last until the summer of 2018. However, the final season will not be expected to debut until 2019.

Due to the magnitude of every episode of the final season, an extended post-production is inevitable despite only having a total of six episodes. It may take a long time for the final season to arrive, but fans of the show believe that the long wait will all be worth it.
