“Game of Thrones,” has never held back on killing off main characters. In the episode finale of season 7, the fates of fan-favorite characters, Ser Beric Dondarrion and Tormund Giantsbane, hung in the balance.

After helping Jon Snow capture a wight to prove the existence of the White Walkers to Queen Cersei, the two characters went to the Wall to aid the Night’s Watch and the Wildling stationed there. However, in the "Game of Thrones" season 7 finale, the Night King launched a bold assault on the Wall by using ice dragon Viserion to cause major damage.

In an interview with Kristofer Hivju, the actor who plays Tormund, said that he honestly does not have an idea of whether his character will survive in "Game of Thrones" Season 8. The star was recently spotted in Belfast along with cast members Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, John Bradley, Pilou Asbæk, Iain Glen, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Jacob Anderson, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, according to a report by Uproxx.

“But people have asked me if characters like Beric and Tormund die, why wouldn't they show that?” he said, adding,” And then, in another way, it's a horrible way to end a season, by killing two people and showing that death. So they kept it in the air. But still, I don't know!

He may be dead.”

Actor Liam Cunningham, who plays Ser Davos in "Game of Thrones," explained that even the cast members were not allowed to learn of their fates until the first read through. This may have been part of HBO’s new policies to protect the show from leaks, reported The Express.

Tormund and Brienne

One of the major reasons why fans have developed a strong support for Tormund Giantsbane is his potential romance with Brienne of Tarth.

Ever since meeting the tough protector of the Stark daughters, Tormund has made it no secret that he had the hots for Brienne.

As Jon, Tormund and company went beyond the wall on a mission in "Game of Thrones" Season 7, he even said that he wanted to have babies with Brienne. In many instances, He has also thrown flirty glances at the female warrior which she has so far not reciprocated.

Love triangle

Another reason why "Game of Thrones" fans are rooting for the survival of Tormund is the possibility of a love triangle with Jamie Lannister and Brienne. It can be recalled that in one of the earlier seasons of the series, the relationship between Jamie and Brienne was extensively explored, leading many shippers to hope for a reunion.

At the time, Brienne seemed to develop romantic feelings towards the Kingslayer and Jamie seemed to develop a soft spot towards her as well. However, due to their conflicting loyalties, they eventually parted ways with Jamie gifting Brienne with the Valyrian steel blade called Oathkeeper. With Jamie Lannister headed north to join Jon and Daenerys’ war against the Night King, it is expected that a Jamie-Brienne reunion will happen in the final season.
