The American remake of the hit South Korean series, "The Good Doctor," is off to a good start. It kicked off its debut season on a high note, drawing in 11.22 million viewers and a 2.2 rating among adults aged 18-49 years.

That being said, ABC has given a back-nine order to the medical-drama television series, which was developed by "House" creator David Shore. This will bring the total episode count to a full-season 22.

“We are thrilled to announce that we are giving our viewers additional episodes of ‘The Good Doctor’,” ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said in a statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly.

Dungey is confident that the medical show will continue to captivate the audience and leave them wanting more, thanks to Freddie Highmore's outstanding performance. He added, “We have an amazing team in front of and behind the camera, led by Freddie Highmore’s incredibly nuanced performance as Dr.Shaun Murphy, and we’re confident the show will continue to captivate our audience."

What is it about?

The ABC medical series follows an autistic savant, Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), who joins the renowned surgical department at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. For a six-month period only, he must prove himself capable of saving lives and fit to engage in social interaction with different people.

What to expect in the next explosive episode

The third episode of “The Good Doctor” is titled Oliver and will follow Dr. Shaun Murphy’s struggles as he continues to adjust to the hospital life. This episode places him and Dr. Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas) being forced to do an organ transplantation in the middle of the road due to unforeseen circumstances.

How such risky procedure will turn out remains to be seen.

As if that were not exciting enough, Dr. Jared Unger (Chuku Modu) and Dr. Neil Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez) will also find themselves in a difficult situation; they found out that their patient is not being completely honest with them, which may cost him his chance at a life-saving surgery.

The upcoming "Oliver" episode is said to be directed by John Dahl ("You Kill Me" and "The Great Raid") based on a script written by Bill Rotko ("The Beast"). It will also see Beau Garrett as Dr. Jessica Preston, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Irene Keng as Dr. Sarah Chen, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman and Tamlyn Tomiya as Allegra Aoki.

The third episode of “The Good Doctor” will air on October 09, Monday at 10:00 p.m. (EDT) on the ABC network. While waiting, fans can check out the upcoming episode's 29-second sneak peek below.
