Horror fans have long been waiting for the release of the third installment in the “Jeepers Creepers” franchise. Due to controversies and several production setbacks, the movie sequel was put on a standstill even though it has been planned since 2003. Fortunately, “Jeepers Creepers 3” is finally scheduled for release this September.

The soon-to-be released installment will reportedly follow the events on the last day of the 23-day feeding frenzy of the franchise’s most iconic and mythical corn field villain known as The Creeper. A special task force was also created to destroy the winged creature for good but as the group gets closer to know its dark origins, terror soon unleashes when The Creeper fights back against his enemies.

One-night only screening

Despite the fact that the sequel is finally coming to theaters this month, Maxim revealed that “Jeepers Creepers 3” will have a “very limited run.” As a matter of fact, the publication revealed that the film will be shown at selected cinemas for one night only on Sept. 26 through Fathom Events.

The film’s one-night only run seems to be pretty unusual but the reason behind this might have something to do with the criminal record of the franchise’s creator and director Victor Salva. As previously reported, Salva was convicted of child molestation in the ‘90s when he sexually assaulted former “Clownhouse” child actor Nathan Forrest Winters.

Due to Salva’s criminal record, fears about possible protests led to the cancellation the sequel’s special double screening.

The special premiere was initially scheduled on Sept. 13 at the TLC Chinese 6 Theaters in Los Angeles, California.

Alleged feud

Another reason for the cancellation of the film’s world premiere is the apparent feud between its director and the producers.

According to FanSided, the film producers hated Salva.

The publication added that the producers were reportedly “working to undermine” the film’s official premiere and release by giving “strange” demands. It was also revealed that the producers rejected the Lionsgate offer for a home video deal.

Fourth installment

Even though Salva’s child molestation scandal has resulted in a huge public outcry, a fourth installment of the franchise is reportedly underway.

In fact, “Jeepers Creepers” actress Gina Phillips revealed that the fourth sequel already had a script. MovieWeb, however, noted that it remains uncertain if the protests and boycotts will interfere with plans.

Trailer and cast

Meanwhile, a short trailer was recently released for “Jeepers Creepers 3.” According to Dread Central, the teaser features several shots of the action scenes and of course, the Creeper.

As for the cast, fans will see the return of franchise veterans Gina Phillips aka Trish Jenner and Jonathan Breck as the Creeper. They will also be joined by Meg Foster, Ray Wise, and Jon Powell.
