"This Is Us" instantly became a popular show after it premiered last year. The show received positive reviews, and has won and been nominated for numerous awards. In 2016, NBC renewed the show for two more seasons with 18 episodes each. The second season is set to premiere on September 26.
The story weaves through the past and present timeline of the Pearson family. In Season 1, fans learned that Jack died, Rebecca is now married to Miguel and that Kevin had previously married someone else. Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off.

William returns
No, William isn’t coming back from the dead as a zombie. Ron Cephas Jones, who plays William Hill – Randall’s biological father, previously revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he is returning for the show’s second season. Jones’ character died in the devastatingly heartbreaking episode “Memphis” (S01E16).
In Season 2, Randall will be struggling with his emotions over William’s death, who he just started getting to know.
William will be reappearing on the show through flashbacks, the actor said that there is much more in William’s life to be explored. Meanwhile, Randall, played by Sterling K. Brown, will be pondering on how he can honor William’s legacy.
How Jack died
Since Jack’s death was revealed in the middle of Season 1, fans of the show were intrigued on how Jack died.
It was also shown that the Big Three were in their teenage years when their father died. Being a brilliant father, an excellent husband, and a good friend, Jack easily became one of the show’s favorite character.
It has been reported that fans will finally know how Jack, played by Milo Ventimiglia, died in Season 2. However, the cast of the show is hoping the fans wouldn’t focus so much on his death but on the life he lived.
Jack was last seen in the Season 1 finale all packed to stay with Miguel for a few days after his fight with Rebecca the previous night. Before he left their house, he told his wife all the things that he loves about her and how their kids will be fine in the future.
More backstories
The two new ordered seasons gives the show a huge opportunity to explore their characters at a deeper level. Mandy Moore, who plays Rebecca, has told People magazine that she wants to see how Rebecca and Miguel’s relationship happened.
In Season 1, fans learned that Kevin had previously married someone, Sophie. The two have known each other since they were kids, they eventually got married but separated after Kevin cheated.
Later, Kevin decided to get back together with Sophie. This season, fans will likely see their relationship more.
There is also a possibility that Randall and Beth’s backstory will also be explored. There aren’t many details regarding Beth’s past or what she does, it will be interesting to see what the show has in store for the character.
