In the season 2 finale of “Supergirl”, lead was released into Earth’s atmosphere to force the Daxamites to leave National City and the planet. However, the act also forced Kara to send Mon-El away to save him. In the upcoming new season, the theme will be ‘what it means to be human.’

Kara is still dealing with the loss of Mon-El and focuses all her time and energy on being Supergirl and protecting National City to forget her grief. Melissa Benoist, who plays Kara Danvers / Supergirl, has previously mentioned that Kara is always trying to balance her life as a hero and as a regular person, and this season, Kara will lean towards being Supergirl.

There are reports that Supergirl will be getting a new suit this season. It is not clear if she is upgrading her iconic suit, or temporarily changing her suit to fight the new villains coming this season, and one of them is Reign who was introduced at the end of the season 2 finale.

Season 3 details

At the DEO, Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan) will be taking on a leadership role this season, according to Screenrant. In season 2, Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) proposed to Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima) – and she said yes, with their wedding coming up, Alex will be revealing a secret to her fiancé.

While Kara is still grieving, she can always turn to Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath). Fans will see their friendship blossom even more in season 3, although Lena will be in danger of going to the dark side, following her brother Lex.

Another person Kara can turn to is everyone’s favorite Queen of Media Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) who is back at CatCo. and will be a recurring character this season. Cat has always helped Kara become Supergirl and the woman she is today through her wise guidance and lessons.

Erica Durance will be joining the cast this season to play Alura, Kara’s mother.

She replaced Laura Benanti who played the character in seasons 1 & 2, but won’t be able to return this season due to obligations in New York. Durance is well known for playing Lois Lane in “Smallville” from 2004-2011.

New characters

The big bad villain this season is Reign (Odette Annabelle). Also known as Samantha March, she is a professional (who will be working at L Corp.) and a young single mom.

Unbeknownst to her, she is actually one of the five Kryptonian bioengineered weapons of mass destruction known as ‘World Killers’ that was created by Zor-El – Kara’s father.

She will soon struggle to hold on to her humanity as her alter-ego (Reign) takes over her personality. Reign will be unlike the other villains in the show who when introduced were already evil. Fans will see Sam turn into Reign and how she becomes a villain.

Another villain Supergirl will be encountering is Psi, also known as Gail Marsh (Yael Grobglas). Psi is known for her telepathic powers of bringing out people’s worst fears. An interesting match against Supergirl, Psi will be appearing on the second episode of the season.

Adrian Pasdar will be joining the cast as a recurring guest star to play Morgan Edge, a real estate developer who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. He will be hiring Bloodsport / Robert Dubois, an ex-military man hired to blow up the city’s waterfront.

With these much villains, Supergirl will be needing some help. Season 3 will be introducing Saturn Girl / Imra Ardeen (Amy Jackson). She is born on Titan (one of Saturn’s moons) and has telekinetic abilities.

Season 3 of “Supergirl” premieres on October 9 on The CW.
