The previous season of Criminal Minds ended with a major cliffhanger and an even big question. Who will survive the deadly car crash? Some believed that SSA Stephen Walker would never make it next season as Damon Gupton was let go and replaced by Daniel Henney, who will play the role of Matt Simmons.

Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) was free from the prison in the 12th season finale. Also, Mr. Scratch, also known as Peter Lewis (Bodhi Elfman), is on the loose. With the twist and turn of events, it looks like “Criminal Minds” Season 13 is going to be intense for everyone in the BAU.

The first episode’s premiere

According to TV Guide, the television show’s executive producer Erica Messer dubbed “Criminal Minds” Season 13 as “our lucky 13.”

Fans are waiting to witness the aftermath of Mr. Scratch’s trap fastened on Emily Prentiss’ (Paget Brewster), Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez), Stephen Walker, David Rossi (Joe Mantegma), Jennifer Jareu (A.J. Cook), and Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler) SUVs.

The first episode will reveal who has survived the car crash, but someone will be gone missing. Penelope Garcia (Kristen Vangsness) will call the help of Matt Simmons to find the lost Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) member. However, it turns out the FBI’s International Response Team is broken.

The broken IRT and Simmons’ coming

Messer revealed that the series’ writers have yet to decide the main reason why the IRT is ruined in “Criminal Minds” Season 13.

But, they promised to feature that issue in the back half of the season. She continued to say that when fans see Simmons, he doesn’t have an assigned assignment yet as he is still working his way out from Quantico.

As Garcia asks for his help, he will become a big part of the premiere episode and will be helping out to do the right thing amidst the wrongs. By the end of his scenes, Messer added that they are going to talk about his inclusion in the television show full-time.

Mr. Scratch’s stay in the series

Erica Messer remains mum about Damon Gupton's exit and how his character, Stephen Walker, will bid his final goodbye in the series' next installment.

However, it is expected to be seen in the show’s premiere episode.

Talking about Mr. Scratch, Messer also revealed that she is considering letting him stay at large until the show’s 300th episode. If that will be considered, then he might still be seen in the still-unordered season 14.

“Criminal Minds” Season 13 will return on Sept. 27 on CBS.
