The "Star Wars" franchise has created a lot of interesting characters through the years. As we watch them take the helm on the dark side or the light side of the Force, we all agree that these characters all have interesting stories just waiting to be told.

Take a look at Han Solo (Harrison Ford), one of the most recognizable characters of the films. We know him as the smuggler who is also the pilot and owner of the iconic Millenium Falcon. Besides that, we haven’t really seen anything about his past as a child or his other exploits before we see him in the main trilogy.

Fans are interested to know more about him that’s why Disney decided to make a spin-off movie just for the smuggler. He was one of the major players of "Star Wars," and we needed to see more of him.

To add another character on this list, Lucasfilm has commissioned another character that will be getting his own spin-off film. Who will it be this time?

Obi Wan spin-off movie is in the works

Good news everyone! It is finally confirmed that Obi Wan Kenobi is getting his own film. It is also reported that Stephen Daldry, the man behind "The Reader" and "The Hours" is currently being talked to direct the film.

Besides the director, no other names are tied to the project yet. The casting is still surrounded in mystery as the company is still negotiating with Daldry.

However, fans of the films can hope that Ewan McGregor might return to the Star Wars universe. After all, McGregor has expressed that he is open to playing the young Jedi Master again.

Ewan Mcgregor is a Scotish actor who previously played the young Obi Wan in the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy.

Early development stage

So far the movie is in the early stage of development with no scripts.

The reports have revealed that if Daldry agrees to do the project, he would be in charge of the over all development and writing of the stand-alone film.

"Star Wars" fans will have to wait for more news as the reports about the film is still very limited. For now, lets just all celebrate that another beloved character is getting his own spot light.

Obi Wan also as Ben Kenobi, was a Jedi Master and once a member of the Jedi Council. He was the mentor of Anakin Skywalker who later turns to the dark side taking on the name of Darth Vader. In the original trilogy, fans will remember that it was him who started the journey of Luke Skywalker when Leia Organa sought the Jedi master's help against the Empire. He was originally played by Sir Alec Guinness and was then played by Ewan McGregor during the prequel trilogy.
